The Global Health Adventures of Professor Ib
Medical Doctor Ib Christian Bygbjerg – or Professor Ib as he is often called – has spent a lifetime dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of others. As a young doctor in the 1970s, he spent much of his time in remote areas in India and The Democratic Republic of the Congo, training health workers to improve local health systems. In the 1980s, he found himself at the center of the HIV/AIDS pandemic in Denmark, treating and caring for hundreds and hundreds of dying young people, while at the same time being a key figure in building up world-class Danish malaria research capacities. He served as a chief physician at the National Hospital in Denmark for many years before he established the global health section at the University of Copenhagen, where he is now a Professor Emeritus.
In three episodes, Professor Ib will take you on an exciting journey through his long life and career within global health.
